My training programme

My base fitness is pretty good as I cycle to and from work four days a week which is a 26 mile round trip, complete with a fiendish 1 in 7 hill to reach home!


Over the last few weeks and from now on, I am increasing my return journey on this commute to up to 35 miles to give me a day total of 50 miles.


Weekend rides now feature in my life and will be a fixture until the trip and I am going to try for a couple of weekends with 80 miles a day between now and May.


Other than that, I am hoping my weekly climbing wall session is contributing a little and I also fit in 10,000m sessions on the Concept II rowing machine we have. The skiing I did in March and April was hopefully good for the legs too - fortunately I didn't break one in the process!


I currently use some energy drinks for my long rides and have been picking up tips about what to use on the trip itself including some Science in Sport products which I will be trying.
